Paul de Jong

About

The work of Paul de Jong consists of drawings, paintings and painting-like sculptures. It shows a world existing of elusive bodily forms in vacuum-like spaces. Clumped together, stacked on top of each other or stretched, the forms are in an awkward state of constant exposure to the inescapable yet slow force of gravity. The frame figures as the boundary of these ambiguous places, where forms crowd and shoulder for their individual space. Through the playful nature of the painted forms, the viewer is left in a paradoxical state of harmonious claustrophobia.
