Mixed feelings

About the exhibition
Opening during Hoogtij: 29 May, 19:00-23:00
The exhibition Mixed Feelings invites you to enter a spatial collage of shifting film scenes, where lived experiences are re-enacted and reimagined through fiction. As reality and imagination blur, moments of imperfection reveal an intimate honesty, inviting viewers into a shared, emotional landscape of memory and change. For this solo exhibition, Vita Soul Wilmering has created a six-channel video installation, featuring overlapping narratives and scenes from her earlier films and new work in progress. Balancing narrative with fragmentation, the work addresses themes such as loss and absence, family history, and love and affection. Mixed Feelings is Vita Soul Wilmering's first large-scale video installation, and the first Billytown exhibition that focuses solely on film.
Alongside the exhibition, Vita Soul Wilmering invited three people to give a talk about their work. Coming from fields as diverse as medicine, poetry, and historical research, each speaker engages with intimate or deeply personal themes at the heart of their work. In different ways, their talks echo the themes of the exhibition. The talks will be held in English. More information about the side programme will follow soon on this page.
